Kehillat YOZMA
YOZMA - The Reform Jewish Community in Modi'in
Founded in 1997, YOZMA is the vibrant spiritual, educational and cultural center for Progressive Jewish life in Modi’in and the surrounding area. We integrate Jewish heritage and progressive values throughout our community programs, events and educational frameworks.

Founding Rabbi, Kinneret Shiryon, established Kehillat YOZMA in 1997 together with a dedicated cadre of volunteers. She served as YOZMA’s spiritual leader since its inception until May 2017.
Living in Israel since 1983, Rabbi Shiryon held a number of positions in the Israeli Reform movement before founding YOZMA. She was the Regional Director of ARZA in Tel Aviv and served as the rabbi of Kehillat Ramat Aviv for seven years becoming the first female rabbi to lead an Israeli congregation.
Rabbi Shiryon was awarded Modi’in’s Career Woman of the Year in 2000 for her outstanding contribution to the city. Rabbi Shiryon was elected chairperson of the Council of Progressive Rabbis in Israel (MARAM) in 2002 serving two consecutive terms and becoming the first woman to head one of Israel’s rabbinical bodies. In 2013 she received the Cohon Award for Rescue.
Rabbi Shiryon received her Rabbinical Degree and Masters in Hebrew Literature from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in New York and her Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2006, Rabbi Shiryon was awarded Doctor of Divinity for her 25 years of service as Rabbi, by H.U.C. in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Shiryon and her late husband, Baruch Shiryon z”l moved to Modi’in as the city was being established. She is mother to Ayelet, Erez, Inbar and Amichai and proud grandmother of Ora, Carmel and Hodaya.
