Mission Statement: The American Friends of the IDF Rabbinate was established to support the religious, education and welfare activities and projects of the IDF Rabbinate. Working closely with the Office of the IDF Chief Rabbi and key department heads and Command rabbis, the AFIDFR provides key support and solutions to problems in real time. All donations to IDF Rabbinate needs are in full coordination with the relevant IDF authorities and Yachad LeMa’an HaChayal.

Please find below a list of many of the projects of the AFIDFR for the needs of the IDF Rabbinate:

Providing 50,000 pairs of olive green “dry-fit” Tzitzit every year to help meet the growing annual need as well as to stockpile critical numbers for emergency wartime preparation. Providing the pocket size Magen Yisrael Tehillim-Siddur for Combat Soldiers which enables a combat soldier to fully function in the field of battle without access to any other sacred books. Operation Sifrei Torah which, in the past 20 years, has supplied more than 350 kosher Sifrei Torah – many newly written – to both Base Synagogues and units in the field. In addition, the AFIDFR is partnering with the IDF Rabbinate in repairing several dozen IDF Torahs which are currently pasul (not kosher for use), but nonetheless fixable by trained Sofrim. Initiating and supplying more than 350 sets of fully equipped Field Beit Knesset Kits and Field Aronot Kodesh for combat troops in the field, and another 50 for the Navy and Air Force. Operation Sukkot which, in the past 18 years, supplied upwards of 2,000 Sukkot, both large and small, allowing every IDF soldier to the opportunity to eat, and in many cases, also sleep, in the Sukkah no matter where the soldier is stationed. Providing upwards of 450 basic Torah Libraries for IDF Synagogues in the past 16 years and working on an additional 150 more. Providing additional thousands of Arbat Haminim on Sukkot and thousands of olive oil Menorahs for Chanukah, and scores of new Megilot for Purim, and many more holiday items. Facilitating donations for the construction, renovation and renewal of Base Synagogues throughout the IDF.  Chesed programs: providing vital assistance for both the major Holiday periods as well during the year to needy soldiers and their families.
