Sanz Medical Center – Laniado Hospital was established in the city of Netanya as the fulfillment of a vow made by the revered Admor of Sanz, Rabbi Yekutiel Yehuda Halberstam, of blessed memory, who was miraculously saved from the Nazis. Shot during the march to the Dachau concentration camp, he vowed that if he survived the inferno, he would establish a medical center in the Land of Israel.
The Rebbe lost his wife and eleven children in the Holocaust. He himself was the only surviving member of an illustrious and widespread family, but his personal loss did not stop him – quite the contrary. With the establishment of the State of Israel in the Land of Israel, he sought to fulfill his vow: to choose life and establish a medical center based on fundamental principles that include:
· Providing holistic care to patients that focuses on the patient, not just the disease;
· Providing treatment to everyone regardless of religion, race, or gender;
· Employing medical and nursing staff that have both high professional standards as well as warmth and empathy.
Over the years, these basic principles formed the basis for the Patients Rights Law enacted by the Israeli Knesset.
