Orr Shalom is Israel’s largest non-profit organization providing residential and therapeutic services to children who have been removed from their homes due to severe abuse and neglect.  Since 1980, our organization has steadily expanded its network of care to ease the plight of Israeli children at risk, helping them break the cycle of violence and become productive, independent adults.

Orr Shalom currently cares for 1,300 children from birth through 18+ years of age in a wide range of multifaceted programs that provide caring, professional, one-on-one treatment. Orr Shalom maintains the highest quality of expert care, with a high staff-child ratio. This ensures that at Orr Shalom, each child receives the attention, therapy, and enrichment s/he needs to thrive.

Our children are cared for in the following homes and frameworks:

• 550 foster homes caring for 790 children including 200 special needs children
• 8 emergency foster homes caring for up to five children aged 0-5 years at any one time on an emergency basis until permanent foster homes are found
• 40 foster therapy homes caring for 70 children with a psychiatric profile
• 17 therapeutic family group homes caring for up to 11 children each
• 7 homes exclusively for adolescent girls who have suffered traumatic abuse
• 2 intensive-care closed facilities, Beit Goldschmidt and Reut for severely traumatized girls and boys respectively who require intensive treatment
• 1 transition home for Orr Shalom 18+ graduates

At the core of our approach is the small family community based setting which has proved itself over the decades. Orr Shalom cares for children-at-risk from across the spectrum of Israeli society including religious, secular, Jews, Arabs, special needs children, children of native-born Israelis and children of immigrants.
