Help us provide health care for kids at the Shravan Health Center in the slums of Mumbai!

In response to the untimely passing of one of our GPM students, Shravan Sharma, The Gabriel Project Mumbai - partnering with the Indian NGO Doctors for You and the Sundara Fund - has launched an ambitious and vital new project: opening a medical clinic for children in the heart of the Kalwa slums. 

Shravan had big hopes and dreams – he wanted to be a doctor. He was never able to make his dream come true, but now, his legacy will live on as The Shravan Health Center works to ensure his community has access to the healthcare that wasn’t available for him.

The clinic, which services 10,000 mothers and children per year, and provides vaccinations, basic medical care and treatment as well as wellness care and health education programs. The clinic is the first of its sort in the Kalwa community, and its presence has life saving implications. Thousands of children in the slums of Mumbai live in substandard conditions with no access to medical care. Maternal and early childhood care is scant and sporadic at best with the closest hospital a fair distance away. Access to vaccinations, vitamins de-worming and other basic health services are not readily available. The results are tragic as easily preventable illnesses; flu, diarrhea and untreated injuries cause an unprecedented number of deaths within these communities. The Shravan Health Center is changing that.

The Shravan Health Center is up and running, already making an incredible impact on the community. The SHC was made possible with the support of the American Jewish Distribution Committee, The Estelle Friedman Gervis Family Foundation, Altico Capital India, Awakening Women’s Institute, Modern Trousseau and Sundara Fund.Despite the difficult life within the Kalwa slum, the people of the community are the most amazing individuals –families who vacate their one room tin shacks each day to give us a space to teach and welcome our volunteer teachers with open arms and hearts. Please consider supporting our efforts to ensure that The Shravan Health Center can treat the people of Kalwa and connect them with the health care they so desperately need. Donations will go towards essential funds for emergency medicine, vaccination campaigns and health education.
